This post showcases the stylized game-ready assets created for my Hallstatt Village environment project in Unreal Engine 5, including hero and modular assets, a vegetation pack, decal meshes and materials, and environmental storytelling elements designed to immerse the player while supporting gameplay readability.
The goal was to capture the strong shape language, readability, and material definition characteristic of Overwatch's stylized environments while maintaining a cohesive visual identity across the entire scene.
After analyzing Overwatch's in-game assets, I identified a few key pillars that guided their creation: readable silhouettes, clear shape hierarchy, clean surface definition, 45-degree chamfered edges, exaggerated proportions, and minimal visual clutter.
All assets were created following a consistent workflow: mid-poly modeling, UV optimization, stylized texturing, and real-time implementation. They were created using Blender, Substance Painter, and Marmoset Toolbag, then rendered in Unreal Engine 5. The vegetation textures were created in Photoshop.
